A Christmas Carol

Thirteen of us girls braved the cold to attend A Christmas Carol at Chicago Street Theatre in Valparaiso on December 18. We were greeted with appetizers when we arrived at the theatre lobby and had an opportunity to socialize. Then, we were guided on a tour of the theatre, from the tech booth to the wardrobe room. And did you know they have a room of doors???

After the tour, we made our way to the theatre and got ready for the show! It was a great performance followed by a talk with the actors. And...the weather held out for us! No snow until after midnight.

Salvation Army Angel Tree Help

One of our Girls Just Wanna Have Fun members, Judy Back, has requested help with sorting and packing the Angel Tree gifts on Saturday, December 13 for the 815 children (so far) who are part of The Salvation Army of Porter County Christmas.

This involves checking all the presents and making sure each child in each family has gifts and when it is complete, then the gifts are bagged and tagged.

The day starts at 8 a.m. with coffee and doughnuts and then get to work. Usually there are sufficient people that we are done no later than 1 p.m.

Angel Tree Headquarters is located at 1361 Morthland (Hwy. 30) in Valpo. It's west of the Harley Davidson dealership and under the same roof as the License Bureau. Just look for the Angels painted on the windows.

Please let Ella (etaylor@pnc.edu or 219-785-5531) or Liz (edepew@pnc.edu or 219-785-5239) know if you would like to help out.

BLUE MAN GROUP!!!!!

We have a unique opportunity to get Blue Man Group tickets at a smashing price! These tickets rarely go on sale! Here's the catch....there always is....we need to reserve them by December 31. However, we have until March to use them.

So, here is what Ella and I need to know...
1. Are you interested?
2. Is Saturday or Sunday better for you?
3. Would you rather eat at a restaurant in Chicago, in the limo (it would be cooler than it sounds), or not at all?
4. Do we want to invite the boys?

Yes, you read limo. Depending on the number of people, we're looking at anything from a regular limo to a super sweet party limo-bus! Don't let the word bus throw you off, you'll never know you're in a bus! The date would be either in February or March. We're leaning a bit towards the first part of March due to our geographic location to the crazy snow belt, but are not opposed to an event near Valentine's Day.

So, let us know if you'd be interested asap. Depending on the answers to the above, the cost for tickets, transportation to/from Chicago, and perhaps food would be $80-100 per person.

Let us know! Thanks!

Funny Stuff

The Comedy Event held Saturday, October 18 was a success! Almost everyone had some Halloween spirit from a festive shirt to full-out costumes! We watched Dana Carvey's "Squatting Monkeys Tell No Lies"....very funny! After the stand-up act, those who were able to stay played a couple of board games.

Lots of fun had by all!

Save the Date!

Saturday, September 27 is the Opportunity Enterprises Pack-a-Thon and we need YOU to help represent the Purdue table. This is assembly line work. We pass a bag and each person places their items on the table in front of them into the bag until it reaches the end. It is then packed in a box to be delivered back to Chicago to be given to each of the runners of the Chicago Marathon on race day. Wear comfortable shoes as you will be standing.
There is a DJ and it is a party atmosphere! And....lunch is included!
Ideally, we'd love to have you there at least from 8 to 12 noon. The address is 2801 Evans Avenue in Valparaiso. Please if you can commit to that, contact Liz at 785-5239 or edepew@pnc.edu or Ella at 785-5531 or etaylor@pnc.edu.
Let's show our community spirit and make this happen!
Be sure to wear Black and Gold or something Purdue.

Saturday, October 4 is the PNCWA Fall Luncheon and interest group fair beginning at 11:00am. The theme of the luncheon is similar to an antique roadshow. If you would like to have lunch and an item appraised the cost is $28, if you just want lunch and to hang out with other PNCWA members the cost is $18. Your reservation must be made by Friday, September 26. If you plan to attend, let Ella or I know and we'll see if we can get a table for our group.

Saturday, October 18 will be the next Girls Just Wanna Have Fun event. We are still planning to follow the comedy format; however, the rumor is true....comedy clubs in the area are a thing of the past. The closest is Chicago, then Indy. The event will be held on the PNC campus. More details to follow!

November 15 at 1:00pm is our Pampered Chef fundraiser. It will be held on the PNC campus in the LSF building, room 170A.

Reminder: PNCWA dues should be paid before the second event on October 18. You may bring your membership form and payment to the meeting if you cannot send it in before the meeting.

Inaugural Meeting

Thank you to everyone who made our first meeting of the PNCWA Girls Just Wanna Have Fun interest group a success! The meeting was at the very warm (after the power went out) Gelsosomo's Pizza in Valpo. 15 ladies were in attendance! All seemed to great time and some met new friends!

We decided that we would like to go to the comedy club or watch Anita Renfroe somewhere for our October activity. More details will be available soon!

November activity will be a Pampered Chef show with 25% of the sales going to benefit the Benjamin Liesch fund. The Pampered Chef show will be Saturday, November 15. Ella and I will announce the time and location soon.
A little backgound about the cause we chose to support....Benj is twenty-seven years old, has a young family consisting of his wife and eight month old son. He was just diagnosed with a brain tumor that he is now receiving treatment for at MD Anderson in Houston, TX. He treatment consists of radiation, chemotherapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. I would like to personally thank everyone in Girls Just Wanna Have Fun because Benj is my cousin and it is wonderful to know that you are so willing to help and really do care. More information on Benj can be found at http://www.hopeforben.blogspot.com/.

Congratulations to Karrie who was the winner of the door prize, a manicure from The Studio! Thank you to Judy for taking pictures of our first FUN event!

Look for updates soon.....
